  • Haakon and Mette-Marit goes back to the future

    Maud Of Norway

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit have started a competition for 14-16 year olds in Norway for their Humanitarian Foundation. The purpose of the competition is to get the younger and the older generations talking to each other; for a teenager to talk to the grandparent generation and to ask about a happening in their life that meant a lot to them.

Mette-Marit says to NTB: “We’ve had the idea concerning such a competition for a long time. We’ve met many fantastic young and older people in this country, but we’ve also seen the need for places where they can gather together, and an increased contact between the generations.”

Crown Prince Haakon says that he thinks it is a misconception that teenagers are only concerned with what happens to them, that they’re also concerned for others, and that the competition is a way to hear about the things that happened to their grandparents, or other older people, when they were young, and what advice they might have for the teenagers.

  • The state of Haakon’s beard

Here is the conclusion to the debate around Crown Prince Haakon’s beard.

The Crown Prince revealed in an interview with Norwegian news channel TV2, that the dispensation for having a beard aboard the vessel, had gone through. Thus, he doesn’t have to shave it off for the occasion.

His wife is someone who is happy about that; in the same interview she chimed in with that she hadn’t given her dispensation for him to rake it off. It would have been quite the interesting scenario if he hadn’t received the dispensation. 😉

Crown Princess Mette-Marit also came out in defense of Haakon’s beard just after he started growing it as well.

A small majority of those who voted in our  poll, thought he should have removed the beard.

  • Märtha Louise and the fountain of light.

In the book she co-wrote with her husband, Ari Behn, after their wedding in 2002, Princess Märtha Louise compared herself to a fountain of light.

“I imagined that I walked in light, that I waded in it until it reached far up on my leg, that everything around me beamed with such a light. At the end, I was filled up; I had become a fountain of light.”

Yesterday, she opened another fountain of light, at St. Olav’s Plass in Oslo. It is a 17 meter tall sculpture made of steel triangles, which reflects the light coming from spotlights below. According to the Norwegian press, the fact that the Princess agreed to open the fountain of light, showed that she possesses the ability to poke fun at herself.

It was her first big official duty since the birth of Emma Tallulah in September.

  • Beard troubles

It’s not too long ago that Prince William shaved off his beard for his military duties. Now, Aftenposten reports that Crown Prince Haakon’s beard may be going the same way.

During the visit to Mexico, he is going aboard a drilling vessel, where beards are forbidden as a security precaution. The Norwegian embassy reports that they have applied for dispensation for the Crown Prince, but that the response hasn’t come yet.

  • Fear of flying

As she’s about to embark on an Official Visit to Mexico, I can’t help but feel a bit sorry for Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway. Her fear of flying is pretty much legendary among royal watchers and Norwegians alike, and spending a long time in an aircraft, even if she’s reportedly been better in these past years.
